About Gisborne Coastguard
Gisborne Volunteer Coastguard
was formed in 1986
It evolved from Gisborne Jet Rescue Boat which had been operated by the Fire Service prior to that time..
Since that time Gisborne Coastguard has operated two boats, with the present boat purchased in 1998..
It is due for replacement by a larger vessel in the next 2 years.
Gisborne Volunteer Coastguard is affiliated to
Coastguard New Zealand
and is a unit within the NZ
Coastguard Eastern Region.
Gisborne Coastguard's primary roles
are:
Preventing loss of life at sea ..... Boating Education, Radio Communications..
Saving lives at sea .... .... ..... .... ..Search and Rescue, Radio Communications..
It is manned by trained Volunteers ..
It is funded entirely by Members and Sponsors
